Pat was not in a discussion with me. I made a comment about a statement Pat threw out. Some places ARE better than others. I don't know what kind of "Lawyer, Doctor or Indian Chief" Pat is. I bet there is a good chance he is making a heck more money in the US in his profession, than he would back in France, or he'd be there.
If that is true, Pat is lucky to be in the US making the kind of money that puts him that high a tax bracket. Pat may work hard and deserve his pay. I'd be happy to have the problem of being in the 50% tax bracket. Not many in that tax bracket suffer for want of material things while many hard working people requiring government support do. His taxes go to help those out.

Noticed a good move today by a Wilminton, NC public School. They are displaying the 10 Commandments as a historical document. The ACLU says they won't file suit because the court has already supported displaying historical documents.
Whether you are Christian or not Jesus is generally accepted as a real person. Maybe this will open the door to open diplays of Jesus and Christmas in public schools.

Mr. Bush's little "axis of evil" has now grown from three to SEVEN, including China and Russia.
Only a madman would contemplate using nuclear weapons....but it takes a very special kind of madness to ANNOUNCE that the United States is preparing to use nuclear weapons, and then to NAME the countries against which they will be used!!! I greatly fear that this administration is trying to provoke a strike against our country in order to justify enlarging the war. The
"evil-doers" must be stopped, according to Mr. Bush.....even if the entire world is destroyed in the process. Mr. Bush is an insult to the intelligence of the American people...he is a disgrace to the office of the presidency, and where he was simply an international embarrassment, he is now considered a menace to mankind!! God help us!!!

I don't think so. Tactical nuclear weapons have a place in todays warfare. It shouldn't be used without much thought and only when the gains outweigh the loses.
It's good to see the "thought" is beginning early. This is something you don't want have to rush and think out.

Ole Georgie Porgie is being consistent to his inconsistency. Having claimed to be a champion of liberal trade, now he is slapping protectionist tariffs on steel. Does he really think that this will help the ailing steel industries (National Steel declared bankrupcy the day after his announcement)? I know that it will surely do one thing: make steel products more expensive for the average consumer. But I don't really think that the average consumer is his problem!!

My dear friends,
The original aim of this website was to encourage Americans to show their solidarity by displaying a yellow ribbon outside their home. It was to be a silent and peaceful way to "speak up" and let others know that we feel our country is being held hostage by an unelected government.
Then came the attacks of September 11th, and George Bush (whose popularily had dropped very significantly), was crowned KING of the world.
But perhaps the time has now come to reconsider our original plan. Let us show our opposition to this fradulent and dangerous regime by tying a yellow ribbon on a tree or gatepost outside the house. Let us show, in a silent demonstration, that we oppose the dangerous path this administration is taking for our country.
Protesters with signs are being arrested or crowded into "first amendment zones"....!!! But we can protest without gathering for a demonstration. We can simply display a yellow ribbon and tell others what it signifies. The movement will grow, and others will take heart and follow suit.
Maybe even the corporate press will take notice and report it. What have we got to lose??? But remember, when someone asks you why the yellow ribbon...tell them....even give them some yellow ribbon....and above all...URGE THEM TO VOTE!!!!

Is it logical, possible, or even constitutional that a presidential appointee can refuse to answer to Congress? I'll need to do a little more research into this. But what absolutely DEFEATS me is that Ridge is a political appointee of an UNELECTED president!!
Every time Bush takes that royal stand about "protecting the powers of the executive branch"...I feel myself giving out with a long, silent SCREAM!!! He has no business anywhere near the executive branch!! He should be back in Crawfod talking to his cows.
The American media must bear the tragic disgrace of this travesty of government...............and we must continue to let them know that they are responsible for everything that happens. They....and their love of money....are truly the root of all evil.

Excuse me, but George Bush WON the election. He did not win the majority of votes, but he did win the electorial votes. In America that is how the President is ELECTED.
I don't think Ridge should have to go speak in front of congress about sensitive defense strategies.
Congress should get to the business of passing the budget and confirming the judicial appointees that they have been obstructing.
....and I think you should stay and tie yellow ribbons all over France.

French help in the War on Terrorism
French intellectuals to be deployed in Afganistan to Convince Taliban of Non-existence of God
The clean up portion of the war in Afganistan heated up yesterday when the Allies revealed plans to airdrop a platoon of crack French existentialist philosophers into the country to destroy the moral of the remaining Taliban zealots by proving the non existence of God. Elements from the feared Jean-Paul Sartre Brigade, or "Black Berets", will be parachuted into combat zones to spread doubt, despondency and existential anomie among the enemy.
Sounds like what the french are trying to do to America on this webpage.

RB - As a lurker here who has taken the time to read the many messages - mostly the great ones from Dana and Bridget Gibson who taught me more about the Moonies than I probably needed to know - I want to address your several comments about poor people receiving food stamps and welfare.
Why are you so hard on the poor? Why not address the welfare programs aimed at the rich?
Such as Agribusiness - 18 Billion annually.
Mining subsidies - 3.5 billion annually.
Export subsidies - 2 billion annually.
Timber subsidies - 427 million annually. (excluding tax breaks)
Tax breaks on capital gains - 37 billion annually.
Social Secuity tax inequities - 53 billion annually.
Military waste and fraud - 172 billion annually.
Accelerated dpreciation allowance - 37 billion.
Aviation subsidies - 5.5 billion annually. Etc, etc.
Also I notice that you criticize tyhe Democrats for accepting money from PETA, Gay Lesbian & Transgender organizations, Rainbow Coalition, etc.
These are all fine organizations and I wonder why you are critical of them?

Hello all:
I just found this site, and thank you, Mathilda.
I have been thinking along the same lines--what to do???
Well, a few weeks ago, I saw Michael Ruppert's presentation on the background of 911, and bought his video, Truth and Lies of 911.
Here's my idea:
I call or talk with anyone who I think might be receptive, and offer a showing of the video--which clearly exposes the conduct of the CIA, Bush family and underlying issue--the world is running out of oil in the next ten to twenty years, while demand is increasing, and the oil/military crowd is determined to control it, even if it means destroying democracy to do so.
So I show the video to a group of friends of my friend, increasing dramatically the number of people involved--and hopefully motivating the people to express their own feelings and then come up with an action plan.
I think the yellow ribbon idea is very good.
It's like when the Danes all wore yellow stars when the Nazis required Jews to wear yellow star during WWII. Non violent resistance and education person to person is probably the best hope we have.

This is for Eric Arnov,
Since I don't know how to reach you, I hope you'll read this note on the Message Board. I have tried to order the Michael Ruppert tape you mentioned, but can't find it. I didn't know it existed. If you will send me an email with your address, I'll be happy to send you the money to send me a copy of the tape.
lipscomb@letstalksense.com Your idea is an excellent one. Americans are good people but miserably uninformed, misinformed or even lied to by the corporate media. If they were aware of the truth, they would certainly (I hope) react as you and I do. I can see the truth of the situation better from here in Europe than Americans can in the States. Our news is really more honest here.
Where did you buy the tape?? Please keep in touch,
and thanks for your excellent efforts.

Personally I think that it's a great idea that the French are telling the Afghanistan people the truth about the non-existence of god, if the previous anonymous writer is correct.
Wish that our schoolchildren could be taught about H. G. Wells. Bertrand Russell, Robert
Ingersoll, Albert Einstein, Thomas Paine and the many other philosophers and thinkers who were, at the very least, doubtful about the existence of a supernatural god.

Hal,
I also learned something from the posts about the moonies. I'm not concerned about the Republican's association with them. They have some good ideas (those that are against the Democratic party).
Agribusiness, timber and mining industries, Hmmmmm... how do they differ from the average welfare recipient? They provide jobs to millions of people - directly in employing them and by making areas able to support restaurants, movie theaters, constuction companiers for new homes, etc. You know giving something back to the community, not simply leeching off the good will of others.
I think that welfare should be available for those that fall upon hard times, but should be limited for 5 years. That is more than enough time to go back to college or vo-tec school and learn a trade.
I thought you may be serious at first, but saying PETA, the rainbow coalition and the transgenders being fine organizations was too much.
Just in case anyone would actually believe what you just stated, read the new book on Jessie Jackson and his corruption and Tammy
Bruces' "New Thought Police". For a little insite on these "fine organizations".
Also check into why PETA is in jeapordy of loosing their tax exempt status because they encourage "terrorism" against those they don't agree with.
Have a nice day.

Could the Bush family history be potentially damaging to the Republican Party? Or is it irrelevant from a long-term public relations point of view? References are at the bottom of the post.
In October 1942, ten months after entering World War II, America was
preparing its first assault against Nazi military forces. Prescott
Bush was managing partner of Brown Brothers Harriman. His 18-year-old
son George, the future U.S. President, had just begun training to
become a naval pilot. On Oct. 20, 1942, the U.S. government ordered
the seizure of Nazi German banking operations in New York City which
were being conducted by Prescott Bush. Under the Trading with the
Enemy Act, the government took over the Union Banking Corporation, in
which Bush was a director. The U.S. Alien Property Custodian seized
Union Banking Corp.'s stock shares, all of which were owned by
Prescott Bush, E. Roland `` Bunny '' Harriman, three Nazi executives,
and two other associates of Bush. (1)
By Oct. 26, 1942, U.S. troops were under way for North Africa. On
Oct. 28, the government issued orders seizing two Nazi front
organizations run by the Bush-Harriman bank: the Holland-American
Trading Corporation and the Seamless Steel Equipment Corporation. (2)
U.S. forces landed under fire near Algiers on Nov. 8, 1942; heavy
combat raged throughout November. Nazi interests in the
Silesian-American Corporation, long managed by Prescott Bush and his
father-in-law George Herbert Walker, were seized under the Trading
with the Enemy Act on Nov. 17, 1942. In this action, the government
announced that it was seizing only the Nazi interests, leaving the
Nazis' U.S. partners to carry on the business. (3)
Bush and Quayle's advisers in 1988 included several European fascist
activists, including Nazi collaborator Laszlo Pasztor, who had served
as junior envoy in Berlin for the Arrow Cross regime in his native
Hungary; Florian Goldau, who had been recruiter for the Romanian Iron
Guard; Bohdan Fedorak, who had headed a Ukranian pro-Nazi group
involved in wartime pogroms; and Croatian-born agitator Jerome Brentar, a fixture on the Holocaust denial circuit. (4)
Discussing what he would say to Israeli Jews upon arriving in the
middle east in 1993, George W. joked: "[You're all] going to hell."
(5)
Tapes of the Bush Family's long-time spiritual adviser, Billy Graham,
have revealed that Graham used to have vehemently anti-Semitic
conversations with Nixon. For example, Graham blamed "satanic Jews"
for the nation's problems. After agreeing with Nixon that left-wing
Jews dominate the news-media, Graham stated that "They're the ones
putting out the pornographic stuff," and the Jewish "stranglehold has
got to be broken or the country's going down the drain." He also
admitted that "a lot of the Jews are great friends of mine.... But
they don't know how I really feel about what they are doing about
this country." (6)
Whether one is for or against it, the death penalty is a serious
issue. When Karla Faye Tucker was asked, just before her execution,
"What would you say to Governor Bush?" George W. showed the
sensitivity of a Nazi when he mocked her: "Please... don't kill me!"

Has George W. Bush been studying history? Listen to this quote from imperial Caesar. This was spoken over 2000 years ago:
"Beware the leader who bangs the drums of war in order to whip the citizenry into a patriotic fervor, for patriotism is indeed a double-edged
sword. It both emboldens the blood, just as it narrows the mind. And when the drums of war have reached a fever pitch and the blood boils with hate
and the mind has closed, the leader will have no need in seizing the rights of the citizenry. Rather, the citizenry, infused with fear and blinded by patriotism, will offer up all of their rights unto the leader and gladly so.
How do I know? For this is what I have done. And I am Caesar."

This is a MUST READ for all of us. It was written by a US Marine Corps General....a real eye-opener.
*************
Smedley Butler on Interventionism
-- Excerpt from a speech delivered in 1933, by Major General Smedley Butler, USMC.
War is just a racket. A racket is best described, I believe, as something that is not what it seems to the majority of people. Only a small inside group knows what it is about. It is conducted for the benefit of the very few at the expense of the masses.
I believe in adequate defense at the coastline and nothing else. If a nation comes over here to fight, then we'll fight. The trouble with America is that when the dollar only earns 6 percent over here, then it gets restless and goes overseas to get 100 percent. Then the flag follows the dollar and the soldiers follow the flag.
I wouldn't go to war again as I have done to protect some lousy investment of the bankers. There are only two things we should fight for. One is the defense of our homes and the other is the Bill of Rights. War for any other reason is simply a racket.
There isn't a trick in the racketeering bag that the military gang is blind to. It has its "finger men" to point out enemies, its "muscle men" to destroy enemies, its "brain men" to plan war preparations, and a "Big Boss" Super-Nationalistic-Capitalism.
It may seem odd for me, a military man to adopt such a comparison. Truthfulness compels me to. I spent thirty-three years and four months in active military service as a member of this country's most agile military force, the Marine Corps. I served in all commissioned ranks from Second Lieutenant to Major-General. And during that period, I spent most of my time being a high class muscle- man for Big Business, for Wall Street and for the Bankers. In short, I was a racketeer, a gangster for capitalism.
I suspected I was just part of a racket at the time. Now I am sure of it. Like all the members of the military profession, I never had a thought of my own until I left the service. My mental faculties remained in suspended animation while I obeyed the orders of higher-ups. This is typical with everyone in the military service.
I helped make Mexico, especially Tampico, safe for American oil interests in 1914. I helped make Haiti and Cuba a decent place for the National City Bank boys to collect revenues in. I helped in the raping of half a dozen Central American republics for the benefits of Wall Street. The record of racketeering is long. I helped purify Nicaragua for the international banking house of Brown Brothers in 1909-1912 (where have I heard that name before?). I brought light to the Dominican Republic for American sugar interests in 1916. In China I helped to see to it that Standard Oil went its way unmolested.
During those years, I had, as the boys in the back room would say, a swell racket. Looking back on it, I feel that I could have given Al Capone a few hints. The best he could do was to operate his racket in three districts. I operated on three continents.

A couple of interesting quotes from our "LEADER":

"The most important thing is for us to find Osama bin Laden. It is our Number one priority and we will not rest until we find him!"

"I don't know where bin Laden is. I have no idea and I really don't care. It's not that important. It's not our priority."

Afghanistan. We had peace during Clinton even Barak and Arafat sat down and signed a peace treaty at Camp David, but now with Bush they are at war.

Consider this. Seventy million dollars were spent in determining whether a married man lied about a sexual liaison with a willing and experienced woman who had her own reasons for her seduction of the man. But, an event such as the WTC attack isn't worth investigating? Causes one to wonder....no?

Consider this: The 70 million were not spent to determine whether the man lied, but to investigate possible obstruction of justice. Besides, his being a liar is a well established fact. He admitted it himself on television, but only after there was nowhere else for him to run, i.e. when Monica's dress was secured by the forces of evil.

God bless Cynthia McKinney!!!
There are many of us out here also calling for a full investigation into the attacks that befell our nation on September 11th, 2001. We also fully support Congresswoman McKinney. Frankly we also believe this administration dropped the ball intelligence wise, therefore thousands lost their lives. He is so quick to blame President Clinton
yet, he refuses to accept any responsibility himself. A leader accepts and does not dismiss his or her responsibility. Frankly, I am damn tired of everything being blamed on President Clinton. If we as a nation stood by and saw our tax dollars being spent on White Water to the tune of $73 million dollars where no lives were lost and proved
nothing, then I think spending that amount if not more is warranted in this case.
