I WAS SO SURE!!! (with apologies to Edgar Allan Poe)
Ah distinctly I remember how I sweated last November When the Florida election seemed too close to call at first, How I stamped my feet and ranted, when the race to Bush was granted, I was sure the court's decision was a cinch to be reversed..
I was sure the press would waken, sure our faith would not be shaken, Sure our country wouldn't let a slimy coup d'état prevail; But the media betrayed us, sided openly with traitors And we found ourselves defeated, and our government for sale.
And we're forced into submission....we can't speak our opposition, Clinton's surpluses have vanished, we have deficits instead. Now we're faced with war, depression, unemployment and recession, Our environment is threatened, and our budget's in the red.
And in spite of this, the nation seems to hail him with elation And my words are badly patterned on a verse from days of yore. Now, therefore I swear that never will I foolishly endeavor To persuade you that I'm clever...quote I, raving....NEVERMORE!!! Matilda Lipscomb
